అథ నవమస్సర్గః

తస్యాలయ వరిష్టస్య మధ్యే విపులమాయతమ్|
దదర్శ భవనం శ్రేష్టం హనుమాన్మారుతాత్మజః||1||

స|| మారుతాత్మజః హనుమాన్ తస్య ఆలయవరిష్ఠస్య మధ్యే విపులం ఆయతం శ్రేష్టం భవనం దదర్శ||

Hanuman, the son of wind god, saw in the middle of the main building a spacious mansion, best among all the mansions.

అర్థయోజన విస్తీర్ణమ్ ఆయతం యోజనం హి తత్|
భవనం రాక్షసేన్ద్రస్య బహుప్రాసాదసంకులమ్||2||

స|| రాక్షసేంద్రస్య భవనం తత్ బహుప్రాశాద సంకులం అర్థ యోజన విస్తీర్ణమ్
Hanuman who can subdue all enemies in search of the wide eyed Sita went all around in search of Sita.

ఉత్తమమ్ రాక్షసావాసం హనుమాన్ అవలోకయన్|
అససాదాథ లక్ష్మీవాన్ రాక్షసేన్ద్రనివేశనమ్||4||

స|| అథ లక్ష్మీవాన్ హనుమాన్ ఉత్తమం రాక్షసావాసం అవలోకయన్ రాక్షసేన్ద్ర నివేశనం అససాద||

Then Hanuman endowed with riches of strength reached the palace of the King of Rakshasas.

చతుర్విషాణైర్ద్విరదైః త్రివిషాణైః తథైవ చ|
పరిక్షిప్తమసంబాధం రక్ష్యమాణముదాయుధైః ||5||

స|| ( తత్ భవనం) చతుర్విషాణైః తథైవ త్రివిషాణైః ద్విరదైః గజైః పరిక్షిప్తం అసంబాధం ఉదాయుధైః రక్ష్యమాణం (అస్తి)||

That palace was guarded by armed Rakshasas and elephants with four tusks , three tusks and two tusks.

రాక్షసీభిశ్చ పత్నీభీ రావణస్య నివేశనమ్|
అహృతాభిశ్చ విక్రమ్య రాజకన్యాభిరావృతమ్||6||

స|| (తత్) రావణస్య నివేశనం పత్నీభిః విక్రమ్య ఆహృతాభిః రాజకన్యాశ్చ రాక్షసీభిశ్చ ఆవృతమ్||

That palace of Ravana was full with his wives, princesses brought by him after winning them over (in a battle) and other Rakshasa women.

తన్నక్రమకరాకీర్ణం తిమిఙ్గిలఝషాకులమ్|
వాయువేగ సమాధూతం పన్నగైరివ సాగరమ్||7||

స|| (తత్ రావణస్య నివేశనమ్) నక్రమకరాకీర్ణం తిమింగిళఝుషాకులమ్ వాయువేగ సమాధూతం పన్నగైః సాగరం ఇవ (అస్తి)||

That Ravana's palace ( with Rakshasa women surrounding his wives and other princesses) looked like an ocean full of crocodiles, sharks as well as whales and shaken by the wind .

యాహి వైశ్రవణే లక్ష్మీర్యా‍చన్ద్రే హరివాహనే|
సారావణగృహే సర్వా నిత్యమేవానపాయినీ||8||

స|| యా లక్ష్మీ వైశ్రవణే యా హరివాహనే ఇన్ద్రే చ (అస్తి) సా సర్వా రావణగృహే నిత్యమేవ అనపాయినీ (అస్తి)||

All of the wealth was possessed by Vaisravana ( son of Vishrava, Kubera) and Indra who rides the green horse was there in the house of Ravana.

యా చ రాజ్ఞః కుబేరస్య యమస్య వరుణస్య చ|
తాదృశీ తద్విశిష్టా వా ఋద్ధీ రక్షోగృహే ష్విహ||9||

రాజ్ఞః కుబేరస్య యా వరుణస్య యా యమస్య ఋద్ధిః తాదృశీ తద్విశిష్ఠా వా (ఋద్ధిః) ఇహ రక్షో గృహే (అస్తి)||

Such wealth or more exquisite wealth as possessed by Kubera, Varuna or Yama was available in the house of the Rakshasa king.

తస్య హర్మ్యస్య మధ్యస్థం వేశ్మ చాన్యత్సునిర్మితమ్|
బహునిర్యూహ సంకీర్ణం దదర్శ పవనాత్మజః||10||

స|| పవనాత్మజః తస్య హర్మ్యస్య మధ్యస్థం సునిర్మితం బహునిర్యూహ సంకీర్ణం అన్యత్ వేశ్మ దదర్శ||

The son of wind god also saw in the middle of those well-built complex of mansions another mansion.

బ్రహ్మణోఽర్థే కృతం దివ్యం దివి యద్విశ్వకర్మణా|
విమానం పుష్పకం నామ సర్వరత్నవిభూషితమ్||11||

స|| పుష్పకం నామ విమానం సర్వ రత్న విభూషితం దివ్యం యత్ బ్రహ్మణోర్థే విశ్వకర్మణా కృతం (తత్ దదర్శ)

There was a wonderful aerial chariot by name Pushpaka built for Brahma by Vishwakarma.

పరేణ తపసా లేభే యత్కుబేరః పితామహాత్|
కుబేరమోజసా జిత్వా లేభే తద్రాక్షసేశ్వరః||12||

స|| ( తత్ విమానం) కుబేరః పితామహాత్ పరేణ తపసా లేభే| కుబేరం ఓజసా జిత్వా తత్ రాక్షసేశ్వరః లేభే ||

That (aerial chariot) was obtained by Kubera from the Grandsire ( Brahma) by supreme penance. Defeating Kubera with his prowess Ravana acquired the same.

ఈహామృగ సమాయుక్తైః కార్తస్వరహిరణ్మయైః|
సుకృతైరాచితం స్తమ్భైః ప్రదీప్తమివ చ శ్రియా||13||
మేరుమన్దరసఙ్కాశై రుల్లిఖద్భి రివామ్బరమ్|
కూటాగారై శ్శుభాకారైః సర్వతః సమలంకృతమ్||14||

స|| ఈహామృగసమాయుక్తైః కార్తస్వరహిరణ్మయైః సుకృతైః స్తమ్భైః శ్రియా ప్రదీప్తం ఇవ మేరుమన్దర సఙ్కాశైః ఉల్లిఖద్భిరివ అమ్బరం సర్వతః శుభాకారైః కూటాగారైః సమలంకృతం ( విమానం దదర్శ)

Blazing with images of wolves on finely built pillars made of Hiranmaya and Kartasvara (two types of gold), touching the sky and with multitude of pleasure houses, that auspicious aerial car was resembling the Meru and Mandara mountains.

జ్వలనార్క ప్రతీకాశం సుకృతమ్ విశ్వకర్మణా|
హేమసోపాన సంయుక్తం చారుప్రవర వేదికమ్||15||

స|| విశ్వకర్మణా సుకృతం జ్వలనార్కప్రతీకాశం హేమసోపాన సంయుక్తం చారుప్రవర వేదికమ్ (తం భవనమ్ దదర్శ)||

(It was )glowing like fire and the Sun , it was well built by Vishwakarma with golden staircases and many platforms.

జాలావాతాయనైర్యుక్తం కాఞ్చనైః స్పాటికైరపి |
ఇన్ద్రనీల మహానీల మణి ప్రవర వేదికమ్||16||

స||(తత్ విమానం) కాంచనైః స్ఫాటికైరపి జాలవాతయనైః యుక్తం ఇన్ద్ర నీల మహానీల మణి ప్రవర వేదికమ్ (దదర్శ)||

With lattice windows made of gold and crystals, the platforms were embedded with Indraneela and Mahaneela sapphires.

విద్రుమేణ విచిత్రేణ మణిభిశ్చమహాఘనైః|
నిస్తులాభిశ్చ ముక్తాభిః తలేనాభి విరాజితమ్||17||

స||విచిత్రేణ విద్రుమేణ మహాఘనైః మణిభిశ్చనిస్తులాభిః ముక్తాభిః తలేన అభివిరాజితమ్ తం విమానం దదర్శ||

It is shining bright with colorful corals and very precious gems fixed in the floor.

చన్దనేన చ రక్తేన తపనీయనిభేన చ|
సుపుణ్యగన్ధినాయుక్తం ఆదిత్య తరుణోపమమ్||18||

స|| రక్తేన తపనీయనిభేన చ సుపుణ్యగన్ధినా చన్దనేన యుక్తం ఆదిత్య తరుణోపమమ్ (విమానం దదర్శ)||

It was red and bright like pure and polished gold comparable to rising Sun.

కూటాగారైర్వరాకారైః వివిధైః సమలంకృతమ్|
విమానం పుష్పకం దివ్యం ఆరురోహ మహాకపిః||19||

స|| వివిధైః వరాకరైః కూటాగారైః సమలంకృతం దివ్యం పుష్పకం విమానం మహాకపిః ఆరురోహ||

Hanuman ascended that wonderful Pushpaka well decked with many corridors.

తత్రస్థ స్స తదా గన్ధం పానభక్ష్యాన్నసంభవమ్|
దివ్యం సమ్మూర్ఛితం జిఘ్ర ద్రూపవంత మివానలమ్||20||

స|| సః తదా తత్రస్థః దివ్యం గన్ధం జిఘ్రత్ | తత్ పానభక్ష్యాన్నసంభవం గంధం సమ్మూర్ఛితం రూపవంతం అనిలమివ అస్తి ||

Standing there Hanuman smelt divine fragrance. That fragrance rising from food and drinks was intoxicating and spread as if to give shape to the wind

స గన్ధస్త్వం మహాసత్త్వం బన్ధుర్బన్ధు మివోత్తమమ్|
ఇత ఏహీ త్యువాచేన తత్ర యత్ర స రావణః||21||

స|| స గంధః ఉత్తమం బన్ధుం బన్ధురివ ఇతః ఏహి ఇతి ఉవాచ ఇవ యత్ర సరావణః తత్ర తం మహాసత్త్వం

That fragrance was as though inviting the mighty Hanuman like a relative inviting kith and kin saying "come here" and leading him to Ravana's chambers

తత స్థాం ప్రస్థితః శాలామ్ దదర్శ మహతీం శుభామ్|
రావణస్య మనః కాన్తాం కాన్తామివ వరస్త్రియమ్||22||

స|| తతః ప్రస్థితః మహతీం శుభాం తత్ వరస్త్రియ కాన్తామివ మనః కాన్తాం రావణస్య శాలాం హనుమాన్ దదర్శ ||

Then he moved towards the great hall of Ravana which is dear to his heart like his chief queen.

మణిసోపానవికృతాం హేమజాలవిభూషితామ్|
స్పాటికైరావృతతలాం దన్తాన్తతరితరూపికామ్||23||

స|| మణిసోపానవికృతాం హేమజాల విభూషితామ్ స్ఫాటికైరావృతతలాం దన్తాన్తతరిత రూపికాం (శాలాం దదర్శ)||

The stairs were inlaid with special gems latticed with gold, floor was covered with ivory inlaid with silver.

ముక్తాభిశ్చ ప్రవాళైశ్చ రూప్యచామీకరైరపి|
విభూషితాం మణిస్తంభైః సుబహుస్తమ్భభూషితామ్||24||

స|| ముక్తాభిశ్చ ప్రవాళైశ్చ రూప్యచామీకరైరపి మణిస్తంభైః విభూషితాం సుబహు స్తమ్భైః భూషితం (శాలాం దదర్శ)

The ornamented golden and silver pillars were in laid with pearls and corals. The hall was decorated with many such pillars.

నమ్రైరృజుభిరత్యుచ్చైః సమంతాత్సువిభూషితైః |
స్తంభైః పక్షైరివాత్యుచ్చైర్దివం సంప్రస్థితామివ ||25||

స|| (తత్ శాలాయాం) నమ్రైః ఋజుభిః అత్యుచ్చైః సమన్తాత్ సువిభూషితైః స్తంభైః అత్యుచ్చైః పక్షైః దివం సమ్ప్రస్థితామివ అస్తి ||

Well decorated with columns which are touching the skies , some of which are bent, some of which are straight , it looked like it started to reach for heaven.

మహత్యా కుథయాస్తీర్ణాం పృథివీ లక్షణాఙ్కయా|
పృథివీమివ విస్తీర్ణం సరాష్ట్ర గృహమాలినీమ్||26||

స|| తత్ శాలా పృథివీ లక్షణాఙ్కయా కుథయా ఆస్తీర్ణం సరాష్ట్ర గృహమాలినీం పృథివీమివ విస్తీర్ణమ్ (అస్తి)

With several murals of earth which were having garland of palaces drawn on it, the expansive carpet looked like a piece of earth itself.

నాదితాం మత్తవిహగైః దివ్యగన్ధాదివాసితామ్|
పరార్థ్యాస్తరణో పేతాం రక్షోధిపనిషేవితామ్||27||

స|| మత్తవిహగైః నాదితాం దివ్యగన్ధాధివాసితామ్ పరార్ధ్యాస్తరణోపేతాం రక్షోధిపేన నిషేవితాం ||

With birds in heat making resounding noise, with divine fragrances and with exquisite tapestries the mansion was inhabited by the king of Rakshasas.

ధూమ్రాం అగరుధూపేన విమలాం హంసపాణ్డురామ్|
చిత్రాం పుష్పోపహారేణ కల్మాషీ మివ సుప్రభామ్||28||

స|| అగరుధూపేన ధూమ్రాం విమలాం హంసపాణ్డురామ్ ఇవ అస్తి | పుష్పోపహారేణ చిత్రామ్ సుప్రభామ్ కల్మషాం కామధేనుం ఇవ (అస్తి) ||

Looking spotless white like a swan , it was smoky with smoke of Agaru. Because of the offering of flowers it was radiant like wish fulfilling Kamdhenu.

మనసంహ్లాద జననీం వర్ణస్యాపి ప్రసాదినీమ్|
తాం శోకనాశినీం దివ్యాం శ్రియః సంజననీమివ||29||

స|| మనః సంహ్లాద జననీం వర్ణస్యాపి ప్రసాదనీం శోకనాశినీం శ్రియం సంజననీం ఇవ దివ్యాం (తామ్ దదర్శ)||

The mansion was generating delight to the heart , pleasing with color and complexion. Demolishing sorrow as it were , it looked like the source of prosperity.

ఇన్ద్రియాణీన్ద్రియార్థైస్తు పఞ్చపఞ్చభిరుత్తమైః|
తర్పయామాస మాతేవ తదా రావణపాలితా||30||

స|| రావణపాలితా (శాలా) తదా మాతా ఇవ పఞ్చభిః ఇన్ద్రియార్థైః పఞ్చఇన్ద్రియాణి తర్పయామాస ||

The chamber of Ravana, like a mother, gratified all five senses with five objects of senses.

స్వర్గోఽయం దేవలోకోఽయం ఇన్ద్రస్యేయం పురీ భవేత్|
సిద్ధిర్వేయం పరా హి స్యాత్ ఇత్యమన్యత మారుతిః||31||

అయం స్వర్గః అయం దేవలోకః అయం ఇన్ద్రస్యపురీ భవేత్ | ఇయం పరాసిద్ధిః స్యాత్ మారుతిః అమన్యత ||

This is heaven. This is the world of Gods. This is the city of Indra. Hanuman thought of this as the supreme achievement.

ప్రధ్యాయత ఇవాపస్యత్ ప్రదీపాం స్తత్ర కాఞ్చనాన్|
ధూర్తానివ మహాధూర్తైః దేవనేన పరాజితాన్||32||

స|| కాఞ్చనాన్ ప్రదీపాన్ దేవనేన మహాధూర్తైః పరాజితం ధూర్తానివ అస్తి| ప్రధ్యాయత ధూర్తాం ఇవ అస్తి||

The golden lamps looked like great gamblers defeated in a game of dice. The gamblers were as though they were in a deep thought.

దీప్తానాం చ ప్రకాశేన తేజసా రావణస్య చ|
అర్చిర్భిః భూషణానాం చ ప్రదీప్తేత్యభ్య మన్యత||33||

స|| దీప్తానాం ప్రకాశేన రావణస్య తేజసా చ భూషణానాం అర్చిభిః ప్రదీప్తా ఇతి అమన్యత||

Hanuman thought that the brightness of the lamps and the brilliance of Ravana , the brilliant glow of his ornaments set the place ablaze with brightness.

తతోఽపశ్యత్కుథాఽఽసీనాం నానావర్ణామ్బరస్రజమ్|
సహస్రం వరనారీణాం నానావేష విభూషితమ్ ||34||

స|| తత్ః కుథాసీనామ్ నానావర్ణాంబరస్రజమ్ నానావేషభూషితమ్ వరనారీణామ్ సహస్రం అపశ్యత్ ||

Then he saw best of women wearing many varieties of clothes and garlands of different colors seated on the carpets .

పరివృత్తేఽర్థరాత్రే తు పాననిద్రావశం గతమ్|
క్రీడిత్వోపరతంరాత్రౌ సుష్వాప బలవత్తదా||35||

స||రాత్రౌ క్రీడిత్వా ఉపరతం పాననిద్రావశం గతం తదా అర్థరాత్రే పరివృత్తే బలవత్ సుష్వాప||

Wearied having sported at night succumbing to drinks and sleep thereafter they fell asleep, when the mid night rolled away.

తత్ప్రసుప్తం విరురుచే నిశ్శబ్దాన్తరభూషణమ్|
నిశ్శబ్దహంస భ్రమరం యథా పద్మవనం మహత్||36||

స|| నిఃశబ్దాంతర భూషణమ్ ప్రసుప్తమ్ నిఃశబ్ధాంతర సభ్రమరం మహత్ పద్మవనం యథా విరురుచే||

With sounds of their ornaments stilled and hence sleeping like the silenced swans and bees , the mansion looked beautiful like a forest of lotuses.

తాసాం సంవృతదన్తాని మీలితాక్షాణి మారుతిః|
అపశ్యత్ పద్మగన్ధీని వదనాని సుయోషితామ్||37||

స|| మారుతిః తాసాం సుయోషితామ్ సంవృతదన్తాని మీలితాక్షాణి పద్మసుగన్ధిని వదనాని అపస్యత్ ||

Hanuman saw those well-bred young women with closed eyes and concealed teeth giving out smell of lotuses.

ప్రబుద్ధానివ పద్మాని తాసాం భూత్వాక్షపాక్షయే|
పునస్సంవృతపత్త్రాణి రాత్రావివ బభుస్తదా||38||

స|| తాసాం క్షపాక్షయే ప్రబుద్ధాని పద్మానివ భూత్వా పునః రాత్రౌ సంవృతపత్రాణివ తదా బభుః||

The women looked like the lotuses with closed petals after having been like the lotuses in bloom from early mooning.

ఇమాని ముఖపద్మాని నియతం మత్తషట్పదాః|
అంబుజానీవ పుల్లాని ప్రార్థయంతి పునః పునః||39||

స|| మత్తషట్పదాః ఇమాని ముఖపద్మాని పుల్లాని అంబుజానివ పునః పునః నియతమ్ ప్రార్థయన్తి||

The intoxicated bees would again and again desire to enjoy the beautiful blooming lotus like faces.

ఇతిచామన్యత శ్రీమాన్ ఉపపత్త్యా మహాకపిః||
మేనే హి గుణతస్తాని సమాని సలిలోద్భవైః||40||

స|| శ్రీమాన్ మహాకపిః తాని గుణతః ఉపపత్త్యా సలిలోద్భవైః సమాని ఇతి అమన్యత | మేనే హి ||

Having ascertained the qualities, the great Vanara felt that it is correct to compare them with lotuses.

సా తస్య శుశుభేశాలా తాభిః స్త్రీభి ర్విరాజితా|
శారదీవ ప్రసన్నా ద్యౌః తారాభిరభిశోభితా||41||

తస్య సా శాలా తాభిః స్త్రీభిః విరాజితా | తారాభిః అభిశోభితా ప్రసన్నా శారదీ ద్యౌ ఇవ శుశుభే||

The mansion of the (Rakshasa king) shone with women . It shone like the clear autumnal sky lit by shining stars

స చ తాభిః పరివృతః శుశుభే రాక్షసాధిపః|
యథా హ్యుడు పతిః శ్రీమాంస్తారాభిరభిసంవృతః||42||

స|| తాభిః పరివృత్తః సః రాక్షసాధిపః తారాభిః అభిసంవృత్తః శ్రీమాన్ హ్యుడుపతిః ఇవ శుశుభే||

Thus surrounded by them the king of Rakshasas shone like the Moon surrounded by the stars.

యాశ్చ్యవన్తేఽమ్బరాత్తారాః పుణ్యశేష సమావృతాః|
ఇమా స్తా స్సంగతాః కృత్స్నా ఇతి మేనే హరిస్తదా||43||

స|| యాః తారాః పుణ్యశేష సమవృత్తాః అమ్బరాత్ చ్యవన్తే తాః కృత్స్నాః ఇమాః సంగతాః ఇతి తదా హరిః మేనే ||

The Vanara thought that the women looked like the stars who have fallen to earth after having exhausted their merits

తారాణామివ సువ్యక్తం మహతీనాం శుభార్చిషామ్|
ప్రభావర్ణ ప్రసాదాశ్చ విరేజుస్తత్ర యోషితామ్||44||

స|| తత్ర యోషితామ్ ప్రభావర్ణ ప్రసాదః చ శుభార్చిషామ్ మహతీనామ్ తారాణామివ సువ్యక్తమ్ విరేజుః||

The luster and grace of those women looked like the that of brilliant stars releasing auspicious glow.

వ్యావృత్తగురు పీనస్రక్ప్రకీర్ణ వరభూషణాః|
పానవ్యాయమకాలేషు నిద్రాపహృతచేతసః||45||

స|| ( సా) పానావ్యాయమ కాలేషు వ్యావృత్త గురు పీన స్రక్ప్రకీర్ణ వర భూషణాః నిద్ర అపహృత చేతసః సన్తి||

With jewels displaced and garlands scattered after drinking and sexual exercises, they had minds dazed in slumber.

వ్యావృత్త తిలకాః కాశ్చిత్ కాశ్చిదుద్భ్రాన్తనూపురాః|
పార్శ్వే గళితహారాశ్చ కాశ్చిత్ పరమయోషితాః||46||

స|| కశ్చిత్ పరమయోషితః వ్యావృత్త తిలకాః కశ్చిత్ ఉద్భ్రాన్తనూపురాః కశ్చిత్ పార్శ్వే గళితహారాః చ

A few had their verminal marks smudged, a few had anklets let loose and a few had necklaces one side.

ముక్తాహారాఽవృతా శ్చాన్యాః కాశ్చిత్ విస్రస్తవాససః|
వ్యావిద్దరశనాదామాః కిశోర్య ఇవ వాహితాః||47||

స|| అన్యాః ముక్తాహారావృతాః కాశ్చిత్ విస్తత్రవాససః వ్యావిద్ధరశనాదామాః వాహితాః కిశోర్యాః ఇవ ఆసీత్||

Others had broken pearl strings on their girdle, some had their clothes slipped off, and some had waist belts snapped and fallen to the ground like young mares released to rest.

సుకుణ్డలధరాశ్చాన్యా విచ్ఛిన్నమృదితస్రజః|
గజేన్ద్రమృదితాః పుల్లా లతా ఇవ మహాననే||48||

స|| సుకుణ్డలధరాః అన్యాః విచ్ఛిన్నమృదితస్రజాః మహావనే గజేన్ద్రమృదితాః ఫ్హుల్లాః లతా వ ఆసీత్ ||

With broken ear tops , broken and crushed flower garlands some looked like blooming creepers in dense forest crushed by mighty elephants.

చన్ద్రాంశుకిరణాభాశ్చ హారాః కాసాంచిదుత్కటాః|
హంసా ఇవ బభుః సుప్తాః స్తనమధ్యేషు యోషితామ్||49||

కాసాంచిత్ యోషితాం స్తనమధ్యేషు ఉత్కటాః చంద్రాంశుకిరణాభాః చ హారాః సుప్తాః హంసా ఇవ బభుః||

Some of the women with shining pearl chains, which were shining like rays of moon, resting between their breast. They looked like swans in sleep.

అపరాసాం చ వైఢూర్యాః కాదమ్బా ఇవ పక్షిణః|
హేమసూత్రాణి చాన్యాసాం చక్రవాకా ఇవాభవన్||50||

స|| పరాసాంశ్చ వైడూర్యాః పక్షిణః కాదమ్బాః ఇవ అన్యాసామ్ హేమసూత్రాణి పక్షిణః చక్రవాకా ఇవ||

The Vaidhurya worn by women looked like Kadamba birds , the golden chains on others looked like Chakravaka birds.

హంసకారణ్డవాకీర్ణాః చక్రవాకోపశోభితాః|
ఆపగా ఇవ తా రేజుర్జఘనైః పులినైరివ||51||

స|| జఘనైః పులినైః ఇవ తాః హంసకారణ్డవాకీణాః చక్రవాకోపశోభితాః ఆపగా ఇవ రేజుః||

With the hips like river banks, they shone like rivers with Hamsas, Karandas and Chakravaka birds.

కిఙ్కిణీజాల సంకోశాస్తా హైమవిపులామ్బుజాః|
భావగ్రాహా యశస్తీరాః సుప్తానద్య ఇవాఽఽబభుః||52||

స|| సుప్తాః కింకిణీజ్వాలసంకోశాః హైమవిపులామ్బుజాః భావగ్రాహాః యశస్తీరాః నద్యా ఇవ ఆబభుః||

With tiny bells tied around the waist looking like buds, bold golden ornaments looking like lotuses, their gestures of love looking like passion of crocodiles, their radiant beauty looking like silver banks , the sleeping ones appeared like rivers.

మృదుష్వఙ్గేషు కాసాంచిత్ కుచాగ్రేషు చ సంస్థితాః|
బభూవుర్భూషణా నీవ శుభా భూషణరాజయః||53||

స|| కాసాంచిత్ మృదుషు అంగేషు కుచాగ్రేషు చ సంస్థితాః శుభాః భూషణరాజయః భూషణానీవ బభూవుః ||

Some women with the tender limbs and breast and nipples imprinted with marks of ornaments, themselves looked like ornaments.

అంశుకాన్తాశ్చ కాసాంచిన్ ముఖమారుతకంపితాః|
ఉపర్యుపరివక్త్రాణాం వ్యాధూయన్తే పునః పునః||54||

స|| కాసాంచిత్ ముఖమారుతకంపితాః అంశుకాంతాశ్చ వక్త్రాణాం ఉపరి ఉపరి పునః పునః వ్యాధూయన్తే||

Some women with breath released by their mouths shaking the fringes of garments, made them flutter again and again.

తాః పతాకాఇవోద్ధూతాః పత్నీనాం రుచిరప్రభాః|
నానావర్ణ సువర్ణానాం వక్త్రమూలేషు రేజిరే||55||

స|| నానావర్ణసువర్ణానాం పత్నీనామ్ వక్రమూలేషు తాః రుచిరప్రభాః ఉధ్దూతాః పతాకాః ఇవ రేజిరే||

The fringes of their garments with different hues shone beautifully close to their faces like splendid flags,

వవల్గుశ్చాత్ర కాసాంచిత్ కుణ్డలాని శుభార్చిషామ్|
ముఖమారుత సంసర్గాన్ మన్దం మన్దం సుయోషితామ్||56||

స|| శుభార్చిషామ్ కాసాంశ్చిత్ యోషితాం కుణ్డలాని అత్ర ముఖ మారుత సంసర్గాత్ మన్దం మన్దం వవల్గుశ్చ||

The ear tops, swinging under the breath of some of the women endowed with auspicious charms, were softly generating a gentle sound.

శర్కరాఽసన గన్ధైశ్చ ప్రకృత్యా సురభిః సుఖః|
తాసాం వదననిశ్వ్యాసః సిషేవే రావణం తదా||57||

స||తదా ప్రకృత్యా శర్కరాసవగన్ధైశ్చ సురభిః సుఖః తాసామ్ వదననిఃశ్వాసః రావణం శిషేవే||

Then the natural sweet smell of wine from their mouths and the natural fragrance of their breath were serving Ravana in their own way.

రావణాననశఙ్కాశ్చ కాశ్చిత్ రావణయోషితః|
ముఖాని స్మ సపత్నీనాం ఉపాజిఘ్రన్ పునః పునః||58||

స|| కశ్చిత్ రావణ యోషితాః రావణాననశంకాశ్చ పునః పునః సపత్నీనామ్ ముఖాని ఉపాజిఘ్రన్||

Some of the wives of Ravana kissed their co-wives assuming it to be Ravana's face.

అత్యర్థం సక్తమనసో రావణే తా వరస్త్రియః|
అస్వతంత్రాః సపత్నీనాం ప్రియమేవాఽఽచరం స్తదా||59||

స|| రావణే అత్యర్థం సక్త మనసః తా వరస్త్రియః అస్వతంత్రాః తదా సపత్నీనామ్ ప్రియమేవ ఆచరన్ ||

Very much devoted to Ravana and not being free some of his wives responded pleasingly.

బాహూన్ ఉపవిధాయాన్యాః పారిహార్యవిభూషితాన్|
అంశుకాని చ రమ్యాణి ప్రమదాస్తత్ర శిశ్యిరే||60||

అన్యాః ప్రమదాః పరిహార్య విభూషితాన్ బాహూన్ రమ్యాణి అంశుకాని ఉపనిధాయ శిశ్యిరే||

Other women laying aside their adornments used their arms as pillows others used their garment as pillows.

అన్యావక్షసి చాన్యస్యాః తస్యాః కాశ్చిత్ పునర్భుజమ్|
అపరాత్వంక మన్యస్యాః తస్యాశ్చాప్యపరాభుజౌ||61||

స|| అన్యాః అన్యస్యాః వక్షసి కాచిత్ పునః తస్యాః భుజం అపరా అన్యస్యాః అంకం అపరా తస్యాః భుజౌ శిశ్యిరే||

Some women slept on the chest of others, another ( slept ) on the shoulders of yet another , and another ( slept) in the lap of the other.

ఊరుపార్శ్వకటీ పృష్ఠం అన్యోన్యస్య సమాశ్రితాః|
పరస్పరనివిష్టాఙ్గ్యో మదస్నేహవశానుగాః||62||

స|| మదస్నేహవశానుగాః అన్యోన్యస్య ఉరుపార్శ్వకటీపృష్ఠం సమాశ్రితాః పరమనివిష్టాఙ్గ్యః శిశ్యిరే||

Given to intoxication and love the women slept touching one other's thighs, sides, hips , back and lap of another with their limbs intertwined.

అన్యోన్యభుజసూత్రేణ స్త్రీమాలాగ్రథితా హి సా|
మాలేవ గ్రథితా సూత్రే శుశుభే మత్తషట్పదా||63||

స|| అన్యోన్య భుజసూత్రేణ గ్రథితా సా స్త్రీమాలా సూత్రే గ్రథితా మత్తషట్పదాః మాలేవ శిశ్యిరే ||

Strung together with another, they looked like a garland of flowers. The women shone like tipsy bees on a garland of flowers .

లతానాం మాధవే మాసి పుల్లనాం వాయుసేవనాత్ |
అన్యోన్యమాలాగ్రథితం సంసక్త కుసుమోచ్చయమ్||64||
వ్యతివేష్టిత సుస్కన్ధం అన్యోన్యభ్రమరాకులమ్|
ఆసీద్వన మివోద్ధూతమ్ స్త్రీవనం రావణస్య తత్||65||

స|| అన్యోన్యమాలాగ్రథితమ్ సంసక్త కుసుమోచ్చయమ్ వ్యతివేష్టిత సుస్కంధం అన్యోన్య భ్రమరాకులమ్ రావణస్య తత్ స్త్రీవనం మాఘవే మాసి వాయుసేవనాత్ ఫుల్లానామ్ లతానామ్ అన్యోన్యమాలాగ్రథితమ్ అన్యోన్యభమరాకులమ్ ఉద్ధతమ్ వనమ్ ఇవ ఆసీత్ ||

Linked to each other like a chain like flowers on a string, tangled together with strong joints like bees swarming, that garden of women was like a garden of creepers with swarming bees and the blooms being blown by the wind with the creepers linked to each other.

ఉచితేష్వపి సువ్యక్తం న తాసాం యోషితాం తదా|
వివేకః శక్య ఆధాతుం భూషణాఙ్గామ్బరస్రజామ్||66||

స||తదా తాసాం యోషితామ్ భూషణాఙ్గామ్బర స్రజామ్ వివేకః సంయుక్తం ఆధాతుమ్ ఉచితేష్వపి న శక్యః||

It is not possible to distinguish between the ornaments , garments, limbs and garlands in order to place them in the right spots.

రావణేసుఖసంవిష్టే తాః స్త్రియో వివిధ ప్రభాః|
జ్వలంతః కాఞ్చనా దీపాః ప్రైక్షంతాఽనిమిషా ఇవ||67||

స|| రావణే సుఖసంవిష్టే వివిధప్రభాః తాః స్త్రియః జ్వలంతః కాంచనాః దీపాః ఇవ అనిమిషాః ప్రేక్షంత ఇవ ఆసీత్||

When Ravana was sleeping happily, the different lights burning on the lamp posts seemed to be gazing at the women without winking

రాజర్షిపితృదైత్యానాం గన్ధర్వాణాం చ యోషితః|
రాక్షసానాం చ యాః కన్యాః తస్య కామవశం గతాః||68||

స||రాజర్షి పిత్రుదైత్యానామ్ గంధర్వాణాం యోషితః రాక్షసానామ్ యాః కన్యాః తస్య కామవశానుగతాః ||

The women who hailed from families of royal sages , ancestral deities, Daityas and Rakshasis gave themselves to him, being infatuated with him.

యుద్ధకామేన తా స్సర్వా రావణేన హృతా స్త్రియః|
సమదా మదనేనైవ మోహితాః కాశ్చిదాగతాః||69||

స|| సర్వాః తాః స్త్రియః యుద్ధకామేన రావణేన హృతాః సమదాః కాశ్చిత్ మదనేన మోహితాః ఏవ ఆగతాః||

All of those women were won over in a battle , some came on their own blinded by lust

న తత్ర కాచిత్ ప్రమదా పసహ్య
వీర్యోపపన్నేన గుణేన లబ్ధా|
న చాన్యకామాపి న చాన్యపూర్వా
వినా వరార్హం జనకాత్మజాం తామ్||70||

స|| వరార్హం తాం జనకాత్మజాం వినా తత్ర కాశ్చిత్ ప్రమదా వీర్యోపపన్నేన ప్రసహ్య న లబ్ధా గుణేన లబ్ధా | అన్యకామాపి చ న | అన్యపూర్వాచ న ||

Except for the revered daughter of Janaka, none of the women were obtained by his valor forcibly. They were not in love with another , nor were they married earlier.

న చాకులీనా న చ హీనరూపా
నాదక్షిణా నానుపచారయుక్తా|
భార్యాభవత్తస్య న హీనసత్త్వా
న చాపి కాన్తస్య న కామనీయా||71||

స|| తస్య భార్యా అకులీనా న చ అభవత్ | హీనరూపాచ న | అదక్షిణా చ న | అనుపచారయుక్తా చ న || హీనసత్త్వా చ న | కాన్తస్య న కామనీయా||

None among them was not born of a noble family. None lacked beauty. None was unkind. None was lacking in courtesy. None not lovable for the lover.

బభూవ బుద్ధిస్తు హరీశ్వరస్య
యదీదృశీ రాఘవ ధర్మపత్నీ|
ఇమా యథా రాక్షసరాజ భార్యాః
సుజాతమస్యేతి హి సాధుబుద్ధేః||72||

స|| ఇమాః రాక్షసరాజభార్యాః యథా రాఘవపత్నీ ఈదృశీ అస్య సుజాతామ్ ఇతి సాధుబుద్ధేః హరీశ్వరస్య బుద్ధిస్తు బభూవ ||

Hanuman thought , if the wife of Raghava born of good family could stay (with her husband) like the wives of this Rakshasa king , it would be fortunate.

పునశ్చ సోఽచిన్తయ దార్తరూపో
ధ్రువం విశిష్టా గుణతో హి సీతా|
అధాయ మస్యాం కృతవాన్ మహాత్మా
లఙ్కేశ్వరః కష్ట మనార్యకర్మ||73||

స||సః దార్తరూపః పునశ్చ అచిన్తయత్ సీతా ధ్రువం గుణతః విశిష్ఠా అథ మహాత్మా అయం లంకేశ్వరః అస్యాం అనార్యం కృతవాన్ కష్టమ్||

Then he felt sad , thinking again, "Sita is surely by her virtues superior (to all) . The king of Lanka has indeed committed an ignoble act".

ఇత్యార్షే శ్రీమద్రామాయణే ఆదికావ్యే వాల్మీకీయే
చతుర్వింశత్ సహస్రికాయాం సంహితాయామ్
శ్రీమత్సుందరకాండే నవమస్సర్గః||

Thus the ninth Sarga of Sundarakanda in Ramayan , the first ever poem written by Valmiki ends||
